Tip: How To Use GA4 DebugView
DebugView, under the Configure tag in GA4, is how you test events and parameters on your site before publishing them.
DebugView should be used in conjunction with Google Tag Manager preview mode.
1. Activate preview mode in Google Tag Manager
2. As you navigate your website in preview mode, the same events you see in GTM…
…should show up in the GA4 DebugView:
For example, we see the scroll events in both GTM as well as GA4.
There are multiple values in DebugView due to the dynamic variable value used for the event.
3. You can click on any event and analyze the data associated with each parameter.
Here, I’m checking the engagement_time_msec parameter in the 75% Scroll event. We can see by clicking the dropdown arrow that it’s 3.
4. If everything appears as expected, you can publish your GTM container with the corresponding events.
